Police seek man who allegedly raped student at convenience store
Police are searching for a man who allegedly raped a college student in the back of a convenience store in El Monte.
The El Monte Police Department said the female student was working as a cashier at the store in the 4100 block of Peck Road and was preparing to close Saturday night when a man blocked the exit.
He “dragged the helpless victim to the rear of the store and raped her,” according to a news release from the El Monte Police Department.
Police believe the assailant is 18-year-old Joseph Leo Amaya, described as a gang member with a tattoo on his right arm that reads “EMF.”
Authorities have been unable to locate Amaya and ask that anyone with information call Det. David Avalos at (626) 258-8842.
