Former L.A. County sheriff’s deputy arrested in fatal stabbing of wife
A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was arrested in the fatal stabbing of his wife in San Fernando on Thursday, authorities said.
L.A. County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives were sent to a residence in the 1000 block of Griswold Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. to assist San Fernando police investigating the slaying, authorities said.
The San Fernando officers had responded to a 911 “medical emergency, possible assault” call, the sheriff’s department said. When officers arrived, they found Deseret Favila, 33, had been stabbed inside the home.
Police and paramedics attempted to save Favila, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The woman’s 37-year-old husband, Jorge Casas, was initially detained and questioned in the case, authorities said. Later, he was booked on suspicion of murder at the San Fernando Police Department headquarters, where he is being held on $2-million bail.
Casas served two years as a deputy before resigning in 2006 for personal reasons, said Deputy Trina Schrader.
The couple had two children, who were in the home along with other family members when the incident occurred, authorities said. Neither of the children were injured.
