2 men killed, 1 wounded in ambush shooting near South L.A. liquor store
Two men were killed and another man was injured in an ambush shooting by two gunmen Thursday outside a South Los Angeles liquor store, authorities said.
The shooting was reported outside Eddie’s Jr. Liquor and Market about 5:45 p.m. near 108th Street and Western Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
About four men were gathered around a truck parked at the market, sheriff’s officials said. Two other men drove up and parked in an alley near the liquor store, walked over to the truck and fired multiple shots with handguns.
A man in the truck’s driver seat was hit by gunshots and pronounced dead at the scene. Two men standing near the back of the truck were also hit. One of the men was pronounced dead and the second was rushed to the hospital. His condition was unknown.
A fourth man inside the truck was not wounded by the gunfire, sheriff’s officials said.
The gunmen returned to their car in the alley and drove off, heading north before turning west on 108th Street.
Authorities said there was no description of the assailants’ vehicle, and it was unclear what motivated the shooting.
The slayings occurred just outside the city of L.A.’s boundaries in Westmont, in an unincorporated part of L.A. County that is patrolled by the Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives were handling the investigation, and anyone with information was asked to contact the Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
