Alleged drunk driver hits Caltrans worker, shuts down LAX offramp
A suspected drunk driver was in custody Thursday after allegedly hitting a Caltrans worker under the 105 Freeway overpass at Sepulveda and Imperial boulevards.
The crash occurred about 4:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes, said Los Angeles police Officer Norma Eisenman. The victim was a Caltrans worker who was removing cones from the street, KTLA reported.
The man was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, CBS Los Angeles reported.
The collision was expected to cause havoc on the morning commute near Los Angeles International Airport, authorities warned.
The California Highway Patrol shut down the westbound 105 Freeway offramp to Sepulveda Boulevard as authorities investigated the crash. Officials recommended using earlier exits or using the 405 Freeway as alternatives for reaching the airport.
