Freak accident kills 7-year-old girl at Santa Fe Springs car show
A 7-year-old girl died in an apparent freak accident Sunday night at an auto show in Santa Fe Springs.
Witnesses told KTLA the girl was killed instantly when she was struck by either a car or pallets that fell after being hit by the car about 8:15 p.m.
The incident occurred inside a warehouse in the 10200 block of Freeman Avenue, where classic cars and low-riders with hydraulics bounced up and down while onlookers crowded around them.
Whittier police told CBS-Los Angeles the driver lost control of the vehicle, triggering the accident.
The Los Angeles County coroner has received her body and is planning to perform an autopsy.
Relatives identified the girl as Mia Chapman.
“I’m very distraught, I’m very upset,” a tearful Patricia Scott, Chapman’s aunt, told KTLA. “This is really, really a shock.”
