A 10-year-old girl who was killed Saturday night appears to have been watching TV inside the family home when she was shot.

Elvira Campos and her two parents were shot Saturday in their home about 11 miles northeast of Sacramento when an unknown number of gunmen walked up to the front door, and without opening it, began shooting indiscriminately inside, according to police and media reports.

“You have to be hard pressed to think a 10-year-old girl was the intended target,” Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jason Ramos told the Associated Press.

Investigators believe the shooting may have been gang related, according to the Associated Press.

“Whoever these gunmen were, they were directly outside the font door,” Ramos said. “This was not a drive-by. These gunmen approached the house and shot inside.”

Elvira appeared to be sitting on the family’s love seat watching TV when the shooting occurred, based on the bullet holes seen on the home’s front door, windows and living room walls, the Sacramento Bee reported.

“All the people injured were innocent victims,” homicide Det. Scott Swisher told the Bee. “There are no disputes we are aware of at this time. We believe the suspects came to the location in a vehicle, and we don’t yet have a description.”

Elvira’s two parents were also shot but are expected to survive. The girl’s 14-year-old brother was at home playing on his computer in another room and was uninjured. Her 20-year-old brother wasn’t home, according to local media reports.

Relatives showed up at the home Sunday morning.

“We just can’t believe this happened,” Elvira’s cousin, Saul Campos, told the Bee. “Elvira was just so happy all the time and used to make parties. She knew everybody.”
