A San Diego elementary school principal has been put on leave after being arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs, authorities said Wednesday.

Rachel Escobedo, 45, principal of Lee Elementary School in the Paradise Hills neighborhood, was arrested Saturday while sitting in a car with a male companion. Police found a small amount of marijuana and also a white substance that is being tested, officials said.

The case is under review by the district attorney’s office, which has not yet filed charges. If charges are filed, she is set to be arraigned Tuesday.
