Paul Walker funeral: ‘Fast and Furious’ costars mourn actor

Paul Walker’s “Fast and Furious” costars opened up over the weekend as his ashes were interred during a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills.

Tyrese Gibson, who reportedly attended the private ceremony along with fellow “Fast and Furious” cast members Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Michelle Rodriguez, referred in a post on Instagram to the “13 years of laughter and grace” he shared with Walker.

“For selfish reasons we all wanted you to stay, another laugh, another take, another talk, another moment,” Gibson wrote.

Rodriguez later tweeted: “I said goodbye to a great man today, a man I never got to show just how much I love his spirit and his golden heart, ‘stay golden pony boy’.”

Walker’s body was released to his family last week after the L.A. County coroner completed an autopsy.

Walker and his friend Roger Rodas were killed Nov. 30 when a 600-horsepower 2005 Porsche Carrera GT driven by Rodas, 38, crashed into a concrete light pole and a tree on Hercules Street near Kelly Johnson Parkway in Santa Clarita. Walker, 40, was a passenger in the vehicle.

Walker and Rodas were declared dead at the scene. Walker died “within seconds” of the crash from a combination of traumatic injuries and burns, according to the coroner’s office.

At the time of his death, Walker had been attending a toy drive and a benefit sponsored by his philanthropic organization, Reach Out Worldwide, to aid victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The event was held at the racing shop Always Evolving Performance Motors, where Rodas was chief executive.

Afterward, investigators said, Walker and Rodas decided to go for a drive.

Investigators are still determining the cause of the crash and whether there was a possible mechanical failure that caused Rodas to lose control. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said speed was a factor, but that there was no evidence the two were involved in a street race.

Results of toxicology tests are not expected for several weeks.
