At least a half-dozen flights were canceled and more than two dozen others were delayed Wednesday after a power outage affected two major terminals at LA/Ontario International Airport.

The power outage occurred at 12:15 a.m., prompting the airport’s emergency generators to switch on for most of the grounds, except for Terminals 2 and 4, spokeswoman Mary Grady said.

It was unclear what caused the outage, but officials expect the power to be fully restored sometime Thursday, she said.

The airlines delayed 29 departing flights, mostly because computers were down and workers couldn’t print boarding passes, Grady said. Seven others were canceled.

By 4 p.m., airport officials said limited power was restored to the terminals.

Airport staff provided water to passengers waiting in the terminals.

Terminal 2 handles flights for United Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines. Terminal 4 is responsible for American Airlines and Southwest flights.

The airport provides direct service to 15 cities, and 62 departure flights are offered daily by eight airlines, she said.

While some flights were arriving at the airport, Grady suggested passengers concerned about their flights check with their airlines.

Passengers were advised to print or download their boarding passes to their cellphones before arriving at the airport.
