Off-duty Hawthorne officer dies in 105 Freeway accident, CHP says
An off-duty Hawthorne Police Department officer on a motorcycle was killed in an accident that has snarled traffic on the eastbound 105 Freeway, authorities said.
Investigators at the scene on the eastbound freeway at Long Beach Boulevard confirmed that the fatality was an off-duty Hawthorne officer, CHP Officer Tatiana Sauquillo told The Times.
She said the the slow lane and right shoulder of the busy east-west freeway were open. The other lanes were expected to remain closed for at least two hours.
The accident was reported about 5:30 p.m., prompting the CHP to declare a SigAltert.
