Man burned in O.C. canyon fires that destroyed 2 cabins
A man in his 20s suffered burns and lacerations to his foot following a series of fires that destroyed two homes in the upper Trabuco Canyon.
A fire broke out at a two-story cabin in West Horsethief Canyon around 6 p.m. Wednesday, fire officials said. The fire then spread to a second cabin nearby, and eventually three separate spot fires also ignited.
One man in the two-story cabin suffered first- and second-degree burns on his arms and his neck and cuts to his foot, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said Thursday. The man declined to be taken to the hospital. He had a pit bull with him, Concialdi said, but the dog was uninjured.
The fires prompted authorities to evacuate nearby residents and close two roads.
Calm winds allowed helicopters to make “significant drops” and “keep this fire from spreading throughout the rest of the canyon,” Concialdi added.
By Thursday, Concialdi said the fire was fully contained and about 95 firefighters were doing mop-up.
