Man armed with air gun robs Newport Beach bank
A 39-year-old man was arrested Tuesday within an hour after police say he robbed a Newport Beach bank.
Just after 3 p.m., a man brandished what was later determined to be an air gun and demanded money at a Bank of America in the 4100 block of MacArthur Boulevard, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.
The man got away with cash and triggered a search by police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter.
Following a brief pursuit during which the man jumped from an 8-foot wall and injured himself, police arrested Vu Hoan Le, a resident of Garden Grove.
Le was detained near the intersection of Euclid Street and Talbert Avenue in Fountain Valley, and he was handcuffed to a gurney before police took him into custody.
Police are investigating whether Le has been involved in other bank robberies in the area.
