Hacienda Heights man accused of killing mother, hiding body in trunk
An arraignment has been delayed for a Hacienda Heights man accused of killing his mother and hiding her body in her car’s trunk.
Clifton Huang, 43, has been charged with murder in the death of his 63-year-old mother, Vilma Chau, and is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 24.
Huang is accused of killing his mother Aug. 29. Chau’s body was found with her hands and feet bound in the trunk of her car by relatives who were looking for her when she didn’t show up for a family gathering.
“Family members had not heard from the victim for a few days so decided to check on her,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. “When they arrived, they noticed a strong odor emanating from the garage area.”
After her body was discovered, officers detained and questioned Huang. He was first arrested for a possible probation violation -- prosecutors say he has five prior felony convictions -- and was eventually charged in his mother’s killing.
Huang is being held in lieu of $1-million bail and faces 50 years to life in prison if convicted.
