Mother of two children found dead in hotel identified, arrested
The Arizona woman whose two children were found dead inside a Santa Ana hotel room Saturday after she attempted suicide has been identified as Marilyn Edge, 42, authorities said.
Edge, of Scottsdale, Ariz., faces two murder charges in the deaths of her 13-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter. On Sunday, Edge remained on suicide watch, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.
On Saturday morning, Edge rammed her vehicle into steel poles in an attempt to crash into an electric vault behind a Home Depot store in the 2300 block of Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa, police said.
There was a propane tank in her car, which she allegedly thought would make the vehicle explode. Edge was uncooperative and attempted to strangle herself when officers arrived on scene, Bertagna told KTLA-TV Channel 5.
After she was extricated, Edge told authorities about the two dead children. Santa Ana police officers rushed to the hotel room on the third floor of a Hampton Inn & Suites at 2720 Hotel Terrace, and found the two children’s bodies, police said.
The woman was treated at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach and turned over to police.
Bertagna said the woman is being held at the Santa Ana Police Department and will be booked into the city jail. She is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, he said.
