Couple charged with capital murder in 8-year-old boy’s fatal beating
An Antelope Valley couple were charged with capital murder Tuesday following the fatal beating of the woman’s 8-year-old son, officials said.
Pearl Sinthia Fernandez, 29, and Isauro Aguirre, 32, were due in court Tuesday afternoon on one count each of murder and a special circumstance of torture, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s announced. Prosecutors planned to ask the pair be held without bail.
Fernandez and Aguirre were arrested Thursday, a day after paramedics were called to the 200 block of East Avenue Q-10 in Palmdale and discovered the boy not breathing, authorities said. The child died Friday at a hospital.
The boy’s injuries included a fractured skull, several broken ribs and burns, prosecutors said.
During police interviews, Aguirre admitted causing the injuries to the child and Fernandez said she was present and did not intervene during the assault, KTLA reported.
The district attorney’s office said prosecutors would decide later whether they would seek the death penalty.
