Coroner to examine human remains found near Montebello bike path
The Los Angeles County coroner will conduct an examination of human remains found near a bike path in Montebello, officials said Thursday.
The remains were found about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday near the Rio Hondo bike path, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Dave Coleman. Montebello police are handling the investigation and the sheriff’s department is assisting.
Coleman did not say whether the agencies believe the remains, which were strewn out near the trail, are a result of a homicide.
“Obviously, finding remains in an area like that is suspicious in nature,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing, Coleman said. A coroner’s official said the age and gender of the remains had yet to be determined.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s department homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. For anonymous tips, call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
