Two Boyle Heights teenagers who were reported missing Wednesday were found safe early Thursday, police said.

Authorities had been searching for Jaylin Mazariegos, 15, and Adrian Gonzalez, 14, since 3 p.m. They were found about 12:45 a.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Normandie Avenue, Hollenbeck Division police said.

Sgt. John Porras said police were able to determine their cell phone location.

The two were in good health but as of 3:15 a.m. were still at the police station meeting with a mental health evaluation unit. Porras said that because of the circumstances of their disappearance, they would not be released to their homes right away.

Police used bloodhounds and helicopters in their search. Mazariegos was reported last seen at 6:15 a.m. in the 2600 block of Alcazar Street. When her mother returned home, she discovered that the teen’s clothing and black BMX bike were missing.

Gonzalez had been last seen at 7:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of De Neve Lane. His mother noticed that his red and black bicycle, along with some clothing, was missing.

“They’re in love, they are together,” Los Angeles police Capt. Ruby Flores said during the search.

In an interview with KNX-AM (1070), Gonzalez’s mother had pleaded for the public’s help in finding the teenagers.

“I love him and I want to have him back home safe,” she said.
