The body of a diver who went missing near the Palos Verdes Peninsula has been found, the U.S. Coast Guard said Saturday.

The body was found about 12:30 p.m., authorities said. Neither the identity of the male diver nor the location of where the body was found was released.

The man was reported missing from his vessel, anchored about 500 yards off Rancho Palos Verdes, about 9 p.m. Friday, U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Andrea Anderson said. He was described as 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds with red hair and blue eyes.

Anderson said the man was an experienced free-diver who had borrowed his friend’s boat to go free-diving. His friend called authorities when the man did not return, she said.

He was last seen wearing a dark-colored wetsuit, Anderson said. The boat was left unattended with personal effects aboard.

A Coast Guard response boat and helicopter crew searched the area, along with Baywatch Redondo and Marina del Rey and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
