No Mega Millions winner means lottery jackpot soars to $508 million
No one is $454 million richer Wednesday morning, but hopeful lottery players get another shot to win this week.
The Mega Millions jackpot swelled to $508 million after Tuesday’s drawing attracted some winners, but no ticket matched all the winning numbers – 29, 46, 53, 64, 73 and Mega Ball 10.
The next drawing is Friday, and the cash option for that jackpot is $357 million, according to Mega Millions.
Seven lucky people in California, Florida, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas won a million dollars each after their tickets matched five numbers.
The last Mega Millions winner was on March 8, when Michael Burkett won $157 million in Washington state.
Lottery officials say there may be something to the number 8.
Only two Mega Millions jackpots won this year. Both jackpots were drawn on Jan. 8 and March 8.
“Could Friday’s draw make it a sweep for the 8s?” lottery officials said in a statement.
Friday’s prize would be the seventh largest U.S. jackpot in lottery history.
The record jackpot for Mega Millions is $656 million in 2012 and shared by three tickets.
