Carman was sitting in her car about 8 p.m. when someone walked up and shot her multiple times, LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado said after the killing.

Carman, of Houston, was visiting family in the area, KABC-TV reported. Police said Frazier killed Carman during a botched robbery attempt. He was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail, records show. His arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.

Homicides in Marina del Rey are rare. Only two others have occurred there since 2000.
