Marge Hearn dies at 98; widow of former Lakers announcer Chick Hearn
Marge Hearn, wife of legendary Lakers announcer Chick Hearn, died Saturday of natural causes, according to the team. She was 98.
“We are very sad at the passing of our beloved Marge Hearn,” Lakers President Jeanie Buss said in a statement. “She was truly the First Lady of the Lakers, sitting alongside her husband, the Voice of the Lakers, Chick Hearn.”
Francis Dayle “Chick” Hearn was the team’s broadcaster for more than four decades, known for his fast-paced and lively delivery. He died in 2002 after suffering brain injuries from a fall.
Hearn often said he was proud of his marriage to Marge, who he met in high school. They wed in 1938 and were married for almost 64 years.
Hearn once said about Marge, “I don’t know what I would have done without her. She is definitely the woman behind this man.”
