Man tips off police to woman’s body, is arrested in her death
A man who tipped off authorities about a woman’s body in a Sacramento-area storage locker has been arrested on suspicion of murder in her death, officials said.
Thomas Bennett, 38, flagged down Sacramento police Monday evening and told them a woman could be found inside an Antelope storage facility, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
“That doesn’t happen too often,” sheriff’s Sgt. Jason Ramos said.
It wasn’t “immediately clear” whether Bennett was “referring to a live or deceased person,” the statement said, so authorities rushed to the storage center in the 3600 block of Blackfoot Way. There, they opened one of the units and found a woman’s body inside.
The cause of death could not be immediately determined, officials said. The victim’s name has not been released; authorities said she was in her 20s.
Bennett was booked on suspicion of murder and was being held without bond in Sacramento County Jail.
Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call homicide investigators at (916) 874-5115.
