A man was killed Thursday when he was struck by an Amtrak train in Moorpark, officials said.

Ventura County firefighters responded at 9:07 a.m. to the 10900 block of West Los Angeles Avenue, according to Capt. Mike Lindbery. Firefighters at first had trouble locating the body, but later discovered it behind a row of businesses, he added.

The victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said the incident occurred a few miles from the Moorpark train station.

She said there were 43 passengers aboard the train, which was en route to San Luis Obispo. The passengers, she added, would be bused to their final destinations.

The tracks are shared by Amtrak and Metrolink.

Jeff Lustgarten, a spokesman for Metrolink, said he did not expect services to be affected by the incident.
