Man held on suspicion of stealing San Bernardino police car
A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stealing an unmarked San Bernardino Police Department vehicle, authorities said Monday.
The Crown Victoria was stolen Oct. 21 from a parking lot at San Bernardino City Hall.
The vehicle was recovered Friday at a San Bernardino apartment complex by investigators who found evidence allegedly linking David Battle to the crime, according to police officials. He was previously incarcerated for theft of a law enforcement vehicle
Battle had been transferred to the supervision of county probation authorities under the state’s prison realignment seven days before he allegedly stole the Crown Victoria, police say.
Officials said in a statement that investigators obtained a search warrant for Battle’s San Bernardino home and “recovered property from the unmarked police vehicle and numerous stolen Ford keys.”
