Man, 20, drowns while cave diving off Palos Verdes Peninsula
A 20-year-old man drowned Thursday while cave diving along the coast of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, authorities said.
The man, whose name has not been released, was swimming with another person about 2 p.m. near Inspiration Point when they were reported missing, said Melanie Flores, a dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
County fire crews pulled the man from the water and brought him to a nearby LAFD fire station at the Port of Los Angeles, where he was pronounced dead, said Margaret Stewart, an LAFD spokeswoman.
The other swimmer was treated at the scene for minor injuries, Flores said.
Last year, 18-year-old Joseph Sanchez went missing after cliff diving near Inspiration Point. His body was pulled from the water days later.
