A Southern California Edison contractor was killed Tuesday when he was crushed between a construction crane and a trailer near the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, authorities said.

The man was working about 4 p.m. in the 1200 block of La Cienega Boulevard, between Fountain Avenue and Sunset Boulevard, when the incident occurred, said Lt. Vance Duffy of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not released pending notification of his family.

“It was a very unfortunate industrial accident,” Duffy said.

The man worked for one of Southern California Edison’s contractors, according to Caroline Aoyagi-Stom, a spokeswoman for the utility company.

The accident occurred near a part of the Sunset Strip that has seen a construction and redevelopment boom in recent years.

Representatives from the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health were at the site and are handling the investigation into the worker’s death, Duffy said.
