Authorities seek identity of man whose decomposed body washed ashore in Pismo Beach
San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of a man whose partially decomposed body washed ashore a mile south of Pismo Beach Pier on Monday.
Tony Cipolla, a department spokesman, said vacationers came across the body about 1 p.m. They immediately contacted police and sheriff’s investigators and state park rangers. The county coroner’s office responded to the scene.
Officials said an autopsy was slated for Wednesday.
Because of its partial decomposition, the body is believed to have been in the water for some time, Cipolla said. Authorities could not say how the man died or give his age.
Coroner’s investigators are in the process of trying to identify the body, Cipolla said.
Officials could not say if the body is that of a man who went missing after jumping off the pier last month.
