Thousand Oaks man held in fake bomb threat case
A 23-year-old Thousand Oaks man has been arrested for allegedly calling in a fake bomb threat to a local store, authorities said Tuesday night.
Brandon Wimsatt used his phone to call Burlington Coat Factory in Thousand Oaks and say there was a bomb in the store, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.
Authorities searched the store but found no bomb or suspicious device. Investigators allegedly traced the call, made last month, to Wimsatt’s phone, according to department officials.
“Wimsatt took steps to hide his phone number from being discovered,” officials said in a statement. They did not say why the store was targeted with the threat.
He was arrested Tuesday morning and was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
