Investigators are looking for any connections between a pair of shootings just blocks apart in Lennox that left one person dead and two wounded early Monday, authorities said.

Gunfire broke out in front of a home across from Lennox Middle School on 111th Place just after midnight Monday that left one man dead, said Sgt. Alan Healey of the Sheriff’s Department.

The man was walking when a car pulled up next to him and someone inside opened fire, said Sgt. Hugo Reynaga. The man survived the attack and was taken to the hospital.

Then, about three hours later and just a couple of blocks away, the sound of more gunfire rang out.

Authorities received a call about a shooting in a strip mall near a taco stand in the 11000 block of Hawthorne Boulevard, Healey said. One man was killed and a woman was wounded when a vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire, Reynaga said.

The woman was taken to the hospital but her condition was unknown. The man’s identity has not been released.

The descriptions of the vehicles in two shootings did not match, Reynaga said.

Monday’s killing is the fifth in Lennox in the last year, according to the Homicide Report database.

The last homicide victim in Lennox was a 40-year-old woman who was shot to death on a park bench Oct. 6.
