Los Angeles Police officers were unable to locate a man with a gun who they believed was holed up inside a Westwood apartment, authorities said.

Authorities said the man’s girlfriend came home about 4 p.m. to find him inside her apartment while brandishing a firearm. A second person was inside the apartment with the man, said LAPD spokesman Matthew Ludwig.

Authorities said Tuesday afternoon that they were in contact with the man. “At this stage, we are not calling it a hostage situation,” Ludwig said at the time.

After several hours, however, authorities said they were attempting to determine whether the man was in the apartment, or if he left before officers arrived, Ludwig said.

LAPD sent a robot into the two-bedroom apartment and did not find anyone inside, said Officer Mike Lopez, an LAPD spokesman.

An LAPD SWAT team also searched the area and could not find the man, Lopez said.
