Paris attacks: LAPD monitoring ‘critical sites’ as precaution

Los Angeles police have notified commanding officers and are monitoring “critical sites” across the city in the wake of the deadly attacks in Paris, officials said Friday afternoon.

Officer Drake Madison, an LAPD spokesman, stressed there was “no nexus to anything in Los Angeles at this time,” saying the actions taken by the department were done so as a precaution.

“Everybody is very much aware of what’s going on,” he said.

Madison said LAPD divisions were deploying extra patrols near the critical sites within their boundaries, such as power grids and other infrastructure, the Hollywood sign, other tourist locations or Los Angeles International Airport.

LAX officials tweeted Friday afternoon that there were “no current threats” against any airport facility. Airport police “continually monitors world situations” and was communicating with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, another tweet read.

Dozens were killed late Friday in Paris in attacks at a theater, a restaurant and near a stadium north of the city. The attacks prompted France to close its borders as authorities worked to determine who was responsible.
