Officers find man shot dead in Lakewood riverbed
A 24-year-old man was found shot dead at the bottom of an embankment in the San Gabriel riverbed in Lakewood, authorities said Sunday.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies found the man shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday near Carson Street, Deputy Crystal Hernandez said.
The man, who had a single gunshot wound to the upper torso, was pronounced dead at the scene, Hernandez said.
He has not been identified, Hernandez said.
The body was found in the San Gabriel riverbed just north of Carson Street. A busy jogging and biking path runs alongside the riverbed, and the Long Beach Towne Center shopping area is on the other side of Carson Street.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives asked anyone with information regarding the shooting death to call them at (323) 890-5500.
