Officer-involved shooting in Lake Balboa leaves one person dead
A person was killed Friday morning in an officer-involved shooting in the San Fernando Valley.
Los Angeles police were dispatched to the 6700 block of Hayvenhurst Avenue in Lake Balboa on the edge of Van Nuys about 3:30 a.m. after someone reported a person acting erratically and commiting vandalism, said Officer Norma Eisenman.
The shooting occurred as the officers who responded tried to take the person into custody, Eisenman said. None of the officers was injured.
An official with the Los Angeles County coroner said they were summoned to retrieve a body from the scene.
There has not been a homicide within a mile of Friday morning’s shooting since 2010, according to the Los Angeles Times Homicide Report.
