Police shoot, kill man suspected of wielding knife; 2 other people found dead in Valley
A man allegedly wielding a knife was shot and killed by police in North Hills on Sunday.
Los Angeles police officers responded to a call about 5:50 p.m. in the 8800 block of Norwich Avenue, said Sgt. Darren Holst of the West Valley Division.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police and the county coroner’s office.
No other information was immediately available.
The incident was the second fatal shooting by Los Angeles police over the weekend.
The first occurred about 3:35 p.m. near the intersection of Courtney Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard at the base of the Hollywood Hills, said Sgt. Robert Ward of the L.A. Police Department’s Hollywood station.
About an hour earlier, police had received a report of a resident encountering a burglar inside a home. The burglar left, and officers set up a perimeter and searched the area, Ward said.
A short time later, neighbors reported hearing multiple shots fired, Ward said.
A handgun and items stolen from the home were found on the suspect after the shooting, police said.
Valley detectives also were investigating another fatal incident. A man and a woman were found dead Sunday afternoon in a residence in the 7600 block of Oso Ave in Winnetka, according to watch commander Larry Dietz of the L.A. County coroner’s office.
No other information was immediately available.
