Sacramento River houseboat where 2 men found dead may be meth lab
Authorities said the houseboat where two men were found dead Monday in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta may have been used to make methamphetamine.
Police in Solano County got a call from Contra Costa authorities who were looking for two overdue fisherman and had spotted the houseboat in the deep-water channel of the river, the Sacramento Bee reported.
“They attempted to call the people on the houseboat but got no response,” said Daryl Snedecker of the Solano County Sheriff’s Office.
When authorities boarded the vessel, they found the bodies, he added.
Authorities have identified the two men as Gary Lee Cooper, 72, of Concord and James Eugene McRae, 49, of Martinez.
Investigators found items on the boat showing that methamphetamine had been consumed and possibly made inside.
“The public needs to be aware that clandestine labs and the components and chemicals used in these labs are extremely dangerous to public safety,” Snedecker told the Sacramento Bee.
