Man’s burning body found on street corner in Hollywood Hills
Police are investigating an apparent suicide after discovering the body of a man on fire on a Hollywood Hills street corner late Friday, authorities said.
Officers also recovered a gun from under the man’s body, said LAPD Officer Jenny Houser. The heat of the fire had caused the ammunition to “sound off,” making a noise similar to exploding firecrackers, Houser said.
That noise prompted calls reporting gunshots in the area around 11 p.m. Friday. When officers responded to the corner of Outpost Drive and Outpost Circle, they found the man on fire, Houser said.
Fire personnel extinguished the fire and pronounced the man dead at the scene, Houser said. Police have yet to identify the man.
“Evidence suggests this was a suicide,” Houser said, adding that a motive has not been determined.
