Firefighters were responding Monday evening to the Hollywood Hills, where a mudslide affected at least three homes, authorities said.

The mudslide was reported in the 8100 block of West Laurel View Drive, said Erik Scott, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The backyard of a home on Hillside Avenue slid downhill and crossed Laurel View Drive, landing in the front yards of two homes there, Scott said. The residents of one home became trapped and were rescued by firefighters. Five homes were evacuated as a precaution.

The mudslide also buried a vehicle and took out power lines, causing outages in the area.

No injuries were reported, and it’s unclear what triggered the slide.

The situation appeared to be stable, but firefighters will monitor the scene through the night, Scott said in an update issued about 7 p.m.

This month, shifting soil underneath a home in the Hollywood Hills caused a balcony to collapse onto a roadway.

A 9,000-pound slab of concrete and a retaining wall tumbled onto Laurel Canyon Boulevard, forcing officials to shut down the road as repairs were completed.
