Officials from High Desert State Prison in Susanville are still trying to determine what prompted a riot Friday that sent several inmates to hospitals.

The riot broke out about 10:30 a.m. and involved 65 inmates, according to a statement from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

During the 10-minute fight, many inmates sustained minor injuries – mostly puncture wounds and lacerations – that were treated by prison medical staff. To stop the riot, officers fired warning shots, officials said.
