Two men referred to President-elect Donald Trump and made disparaging remarks about Muslims while robbing a woman Wednesday at a university parking lot in San Diego, authorities said.

The incident at San Diego State was being investigated as a hate crime, police said.

The woman was walking to her car about 2:30 p.m. when the men confronted her, made the demeaning comments and snatched her backpack and purse, according to Lt. Ronald Broussard of the university’s Police Department.

The men retrieved her keys and fled the area, and the woman left to report the incident to police. When she returned with police, her car had been stolen, Broussard said.

One of the suspects was identified as a white male between the ages of 20 and 25 with blond hair, a large build and wearing a white T-shirt with jeans.

The second suspect was identified as a male Latino, also between the ages of 20 and 25, with a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and dark hair, Broussard said.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the university’s Police Department at (619) 594-1991.
