Grandfather arrested after losing track of toddler
A 53-year-old Chula Vista man is in jail after being arrested on suspicion of child neglect and public intoxication after losing track of his 2-year-old grandchild.
Frank Moreno was arrested about 1 a.m. Saturday while at a “local taco shop eating a burrito,” police said.
Moreno’s family told police that he had taken the child around 10 p.m. to get a burrito. After they didn’t come back for several hours, family members went looking for them. They found Moreno at the taco shop and called police for help finding the child.
Moreno “didn’t know where the child was and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance,” police said. He was arrested.
The child fit the description of a child found asleep in a stroller on the sidewalk near the taco stand around 11:30 p.m. by a skateboarder.
The child “was well cared for and had no signs of abuse,” police said. The toddler had been taken into protective custody by police.
Moreno remains in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
