Boy, 10, ‘fighting for his life’ after golf cart accident
A 10-year-old boy was in grave condition Sunday after suffering a head injury in a vehicle accident in an exclusive gated community north of Beverly Hills, authorities said.
The boy sustained a “severe head injury” when the modified golf cart in which he was riding overturned in Beverly Crest, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department Three boys and two men were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, which was reported at 2:36 p.m., and were taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. It did not appear the other four were injured, Humphrey said.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the accident but could not provide further details.
“It’s a tragedy,” Humphrey said. “The boy is fighting for his life.”
Beverly Crest, located along Mulholland Drive, is a wealthy neighborhood of homes that typically list between $15 million and $50 million. It is common for residents to travel throughout the gated community by moped, bikes and golf carts, Humphrey said.
He said the golf cart involved in the crash had been modified with stylish features for aesthetic appeal, but he could not say whether the alterations had contributed to the accident.
