Girl, 7, killed by out-of-control vehicle at car show, police say
Whittier police have determined that an out-of-control vehicle killed a 7-year-old girl at a car show in Santa Fe Springs on Sunday night, officials said.
According to police, several car clubs gathered at a business in the 10200 block of Freeman Avenue. Video of the event shows classic cars and low-riders souped up with hydraulics bouncing high into the air.
At about 7:30 p.m., one of the cars was leaving when the driver lost control. The vehicle hit the girl, killing her instantly, authorities said.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has yet to publicly identify the girl or release a cause of death. An autopsy has yet to be scheduled.
There have been no arrests in the incident, which police are still investigating. One question being addressed is whether permits had been obtained for the event.
“I’m very distraught. I’m very upset,” a tearful Patricia Scott -- identified as the girl’s great-aunt --told KTLA. “This is really, really a shock.”
