Mother and daughter killed by vehicle while walking dog in West Hills
A mother and daughter were killed Monday night after they were struck by a sport utility vehicle in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.
A mother was in her 60s and her daughter, described as being in her 30s, were crossing West Roscoe Boulevard in West Hills about 8:30 p.m. when the crash occurred, officials with the Los Angeles Fire Department told KTLA-TV Channel 5.
The driver of the red Subaru Forester, which struck the two women, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The younger woman was pronounced dead at the scene, LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said. The older woman was taken to a hospital in grave condition and later died, KTLA-TV reported.
The LAFD initially described the victims as a 14-year-old girl and a 70-year-old woman.
The names of the victims were not released.
A witness told KTLA-TV that before the crash, the women were walking a dog. The dog was also killed in the incident, which is under investigation by Los Angeles police.
