Police seek a man who fatally shot a woman in Garden Grove
Police were searching Thursday for a gunman who shot and killed a 31-year-old woman in front of a Garden Grove home.
Two women reportedly were fighting in front of a residence in the 13500 block of Purdy Street about 11 p.m. Wednesday when a man approached them, shot one of the women at least three times in the torso and fled, police said.
“He probably fled in a car, but we don’t know for sure,” said Lt. Bob Bogue of the Garden Grove Police Department. “We don’t have any vehicle description that we’re looking for right now.”
Police responding to the call found the woman on the front lawn with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers and paramedics attempted life-saving efforts but eventually pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notification, but her last known residence was in San Clemente, according to authorities. It was unknown how long she had been staying at the home where the shooting occurred.
Before the shooting, there was a verbal and physical altercation between the victim and the woman she was staying with.
“They definitely knew each other, don’t know how close of a relationship it was,” Bogue said.
So far, investigators have no detailed description of the gunman and are seeking more witnesses.
“Most of the witnesses who were there took off prior to the officers arriving,” Bogue said.
