Mayor Eric Garcetti quietly launches fundraising for 2017 reelection
Less than halfway through his first term as mayor, Eric Garcetti has filed paperwork to begin fundraising for his reelection effort and on Monday launched his 2017 campaign website.
Although Garcetti has not formally declared his candidacy for a second mayoral term, the site launched Tuesday morning is headlined “Eric Garcetti for Mayor 2017.”
Fundraising can begin two years in advance of an election. The Los Angeles Ethics Commission on Monday received the forms Garcetti must file to begin soliciting and accepting donations through the committee Garcetti for Mayor 2017.
The bare-bones website, which includes a brief biography of Garcetti and contact information for potential campaign donors, went live without fanfare.
Voted into office in May 2013 after a grueling electoral battle with former City Controller Wendy Greuel, Garcetti as of yet has no known challengers on the horizon.
