Two Cal State Fullerton students stabbed near fraternity house

Two male students at Cal State Fullerton were stabbed on the school’s fraternity row early Sunday morning, the day before fall semester classes began, authorities said.

Police responded to a call at approximately 12:25 a.m. about an altercation that had just occurred near the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity house at 2117 Teri Place. When they arrived, officers found two injured victims in the alley bordering the house, the Fullerton Police Department said in a news release.

One student was stabbed in the arm, and the other was stabbed in the chest. Both students were transported to area hospitals where they received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The suspect, who is described as a Latino male between the ages of 18 and 20, fled on foot before law enforcement arrived. He is approximately 5’10”, 160-175 pounds and was wearing a baseball cap, dark pants and a dark shirt, according to police.

Sgt. Jon Radus said that students in the area were drinking and partying.

“Anytime you get a bunch of kids and alcohol together, there’s gonna be parties,” Radus said. “And just like in bars, there are sometimes altercations that occur.”

It is not known whether the victims were affiliated with Greek life.

“The weekend before the first day of school, it’s usually very busy,” Radus said. “Our hope is that everyone will be safe and have a good time responsibly.”

Investigators are working to review video evidence and locate the suspect.
