Shooting on 5 Freeway near Citadel outlets may be gang-related, authorities say
Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives are investigating a car-to-car shooting Monday night on the 5 Freeway near the Citadel in Commerce, authorities said.
The confrontation, initially reported as a possible road rage incident, occurred in the northbound lanes about 8:30 p.m. and ended when a driver pulled up alongside another car and fired once, striking the windshield, the sheriff’s department said.
The car that was shot exited at 1st Street and Boyle Avenue and the driver, who was not injured, called police, according to the sheriff’s department. The shooter continued on and has not been caught.
After further investigation, sheriff’s detectives believe the incident may have been gang-related, said Lt. Ed Alvarez.
The shooter’s vehicle was described as a dark blue or black Chevrolet Suburban, KABC reported.
Authorities will check the cameras at the Citadel to see if they recorded the incident, Alvarez said.
