Fire near 5 Freeway in Castaic jams traffic
A fire next to the 5 Freeway near Castaic has jammed traffic heading north toward the Grapevine.
By 4 p.m., firefighters had knocked down the flames and were “mopping up,” said Kyle Sanford, supervising dispatcher with the L.A. County Fire Department. The California Highway Patrol said the two outside northbound lanes were still closed but should be opened by 5:15.
The fire started about 1:30 and burned 3 acres in the gap of land where the northbound and southbound lanes cross north of Castaic. The cause of the blaze was unknown, Sanford said.
