Teacher arrested after having baby with student, police say
A 28-year-old Redlands high school teacher has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with a teenage boy who authorities allege is father of her child.
Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst was arrested Monday morning for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor after she was questioned by Redlands police detectives at her home in the city.
Whitehurst teaches at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands, where she was an advisor to the then-16-year-old student.
The sexual relationship began last summer and continued for nearly a year, according detectives.
Redlands police initiated an investigation after the boy’s mother reported the alleged relationship to school officials, who called Redlands police Monday.
Detectives say Whitehurst gave birth to a child June 18 and the child is the son of the teenager.
Whitehurst was released from custody Monday evening after posting $25,000 bail.
The investigation into Whitehurst is ongoing and authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact Det. Natasha Crawford at (909) 798-7623
