Driver suspected of DUI crashes into guardrail; hand severed
A driver’s hand was severed when he crashed into an Interstate 15 off-ramp guardrail in Mission Valley on Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver was suspected of DUI, CHP Officer Mary Bailey said. He was taken to a hospital with injuries considered life-threatening.
The single-vehicle collision occurred about 9:40 p.m. in the left lane of the south I-15 off-ramp to Friars Road.
Witnesses told dispatchers the white pickup truck was speeding in and out of lanes before the crash.
Bailey said the off-ramp was closed while crews searched for the man’s hand. It reopened just before 11 p.m.
